Dear Reader,
I’m not entirely sure where to begin – but perhaps the best place is with the reason I decided to start this blog.
I’ve always been drawn to the idea of freedom. I’ve dreamed of personal freedom and endless travel for as long as I can remember.
When my wife and I decided to sell everything, buy a motorhome and set out on the road, I truly believed I had found ultimate freedom.
Turns out, it wasn’t quite that simple.
It took me some time to realize what was missing – the pieces that would make this way of living feel complete.
What I lacked was knowledge, preparation, awareness, and safety.
ByRagnar.com is my little corner of the internet where I share my experiences, mistakes, and small victories connected to motorhome life – especially the safety part.
I want to make it easier for anyone considering this lifestyle to prepare, to travel smart, and to find solid information in their own language.
Having a resource like that would have saved me a lot of frustration back in the day.
Who am I?

The photo was taken at the 3D Fun Art Museum in Lisbon
I’m a man in my prime, happily married to the best woman in the world (totally unbiased! 🙂), father of several kids – and one dog.
I grew up in the East of Iceland and, like many others, I’ve faced my share of ups and downs.
This website is, in a way, part of my own rebuilding process – my search for balance after some tough years.
I’ll never forget our very first motorhome trip.
I was nervous, unprepared, and had no idea what I was doing.
But something sparked inside me – a feeling of peace, simplicity, and freedom.
Our destination was Borgarfjörður, just a short trip to test the new setup and figure out all those mysterious buttons.
Of course, things didn’t go smoothly – that weekend I spent half my time sweating over “everything.”
And what the next two years taught me was simple:
I didn’t know anything – and I had a lot to learn.
For example, I couldn’t understand why, no matter how much water I poured into the tank, it never filled properly.
Then I noticed a small leak outside.
After quite a bit of frantic Googling, I discovered the cause – a drain valve that was left open to protect the pipes from freezing.
Sure enough, I found that little troublemaker, closed it, and like magic, the tank filled up and the leak disappeared.
Why safety?

Because I’ve learned that freedom in a motorhome isn’t real freedom without safety and preparation.
When you’re calm and ready, you can actually enjoy the journey – there’s no stress, just motion and peace.
That doesn’t mean everything will be perfect, of course.
But it makes all the difference in the world.
Experience has taught me that knowing where that one valve is located isn’t enough.
Living and traveling in a motorhome requires you to understand a bit more – especially if you’re crossing borders.
When my wife and I traveled with two of our kids, it quickly became clear that safety always comes first.
What I hope to achieve with this site
Here on my site, I’ll take things one step at a time.
I want to share what I’ve learned with you – and with anyone who’s curious about motorhome life.
I know there are countless experienced travelers and quirky enthusiasts out there who know this world inside and out.
Much of what I know today comes directly from those people and their shared wisdom.
You won’t find polished perfection here – just practical advice, a bit of humor, and hopefully some inspiration to help you travel a little safer and a lot more relaxed.
Final words
Well, I think this first post has turned out long enough.
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read it.
If you’re new to motorhome life, or simply curious about how to travel with more confidence and peace of mind – you’re in the right place.
If I can help you let go of a little stress and enjoy the journey a bit more, then I’ve reached my goal.
Thanks for visiting – and welcome aboard the journey with me.
Warm regards,
Ragnar
